Catania defender Christian Terlizzi has been fined £10,000 for suggesting Francesco Totti “needs to get thumped.”
The Disciplinary Commission acted after the Sicilians’ victory on December 21 when Terlizzi over-stepped the mark.
When asked in the post-match interview how Totti could be stopped, the Catania man had an unusual response.
“How to stop Totti? He needs to get thumped on the pitch a little more.”
Terlizzi has now been fined 15,000 Euros and an identical penalty has been handed to the club he represents.
It was a particularly unfortunate statement, as Totti limped off with a thigh injury during that 3-2 result.
