Friday 13 March, 2009 | | Milan are reportedly preparing to snare Roma pair Philippe Mexes and Christian Panucci during the summer.
The Rossoneri need to remodel their ageing defence at the end of the current campaign.
Paolo Maldini is set to retire, while Alessandro Nesta and Kakha Kaladze have recurring injury problems.
A story in Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport claims that the Diavolo see Mexes and Panucci as the ideal replacements.
Veteran stopper Panucci played for Milan between 1993 and 1997 and will be a free agent once his contract expires in the summer.
Mexes may be more problematic as the French international is highly rated at the Stadio Olimpico and Roma are unlikely to let him leave for less than £15m.
Furthermore, Mexes has stressed his determination to stay with Roma and become a club hero.
Reports suggest that Milan are weighing up the merits of a £13m part-exchange deal including the services of Ignazio Abate and Yoann Gourcuff.
