Friday 13 March, 2009 | | Udinese Coach Pasquale Marino was delighted with his side's performance against Zenit St Petersburg.
The Zebrette overcame the UEFA Cup holders 2-0 after goals from Fabio Quagliarella and Antonio Di Natale.
The Udine outfit now have the upper hand ahead of their second leg in Russia.
I'm certainly pleased with the performance and I think we really deserved the result, Marino said on Sky Sport Italia.
We created lots of chances and showed some real character throughout the match.
I was fairly happy while the score was 0-0, but I'm glad we continued to press to get a positive outcome.
We were in crisis and it's difficult to get through that when you have a young team like mine, but we have got some players back from injury and are doing better.
We need to stay calm in Russia and play with the same passion so that we get into the next round.
Marino was sent to the stands by the referee after an outburst following a foul on one of his men.
I protested after a foul on Simone Pepe, he explained. The referee probably understood what I said in Sicilian and so he sent me off.
