Ibra: We were unlucky
Tuesday 11 March, 2008

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was desperately disappointing again in the big game, but maintains Inter were simply unlucky.

“We were unlucky tonight – and at Anfield – then we had to play both games with a man down. More importantly we did our best and could not do any more, so the best team won,” said the Swede.

Ibra was furious with Marco Materazzi for his red card after the 2-0 first leg defeat, but was less hard on Nicolas Burdisso for his dismissal.

“We created some scoring opportunities but didn’t have that bit of luck. Now we are out and must remain concentrated for the Coppa Italia and Scudetto.”

Inter have consistently had problems in the Champions League and this is another early exit, raising questions on their pedigree at this level.

“We did our best and were eliminated. We are a great squad. If you look at this club and all the players at our disposal, then obviously we are a great squad. We were just a little bit unlucky.”

This elimination and his poor performances in the big games are bound to hit Ibrahimovic’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.

“I am not thinking about that now. I have to focus on the Coppa Italia and Serie A.”
