Benitez: It was all over at Anfield
Tuesday 11 March, 2008

Rafa Benitez admitted Liverpool had qualification in hand after the first leg victory at Anfield.

“It was a difficult game because Inter are a strong team, but in the end the result of the first leg proved to be decisive,” said the Coach.

The Reds also won 1-0 at San Siro this evening to go through to the Champions League quarter-finals, 3-0 on aggregate.

In the first leg Marco Materazzi was sent off after just 30 minutes, while Nicolas Burdisso saw red just before Fernando Torres netted in Milan.

“It is always useful to play a man extra. They had to win and with a man down that made it even more difficult for them,” Benitez told RAI television.

The exit comes on a downward spiral for the Nerazzurri, who have been struggling in Serie A as well as Europe.

“We are in good shape right now and admittedly it isn’t Inter’s best period of form this season.”
