Canna to be on Italy bench
Monday 9 June, 2008

It is reported that Fabio Cannavaro will be on the bench against Holland after Italy removed one of their physiotherapists.

The captain misses out on Euro 2008 after damaging ankle ligaments in training and is no longer part of the squad, but has been given special dispensation to stay with his teammates throughout the tournament.

It was believed this VIP pass meant he could enter the locker room, but not actually sit on the sidelines during a match.

However, it is reported that the Azzurri have found a way round the rules by removing one of their physiotherapists from the bench, therefore keeping the limit on Federation members.

Tonight’s Group C clash with Holland is the most eagerly-anticipated game in the competition and the stands of the Wankdorf Stadium in Berne will also host FIFA President Sepp Blatter and Dutch legend Johann Cruyff.
