 | | | | Reports: Don backs De Rossi |
Sunday 8 June, 2008 | |
Roberto Donadoni will choose Daniele De Rossi ahead of Massimo Ambrosini for tomorrows game against Holland, according to the Italian Press.
The world champions start their European Championship campaign with a tough test against a highly rated Dutch side in Berne.
Donadoni has a number of tough selection decisions to make before kick-off at 7.45pm, but the media believe that his mind is made up.
It has been reported that Roma star Daniele De Rossi will beat Milans Massimo Ambrosini to a starting shirt in the midfield and will play a holding role.
In the absence of Hollands pace man Arjen Robben, Don is expected to field the slower Marco Materazzi alongside Wolfsburg new boy Andrea Barzagli in central defence with Gianluca Zambrotta on the right and Fabio Grosso at left-back.
Milan teammates Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso are expected to occupy the central midfiield positions behind an attacking trident of Mauro Camoranesi, Antonio Di Natale and Luca Toni.
Italy (probable): Buffon; Zambrotta, Barzagli, Materazzi, Grosso; De Rossi, Pirlo, Gattuso; Camoranesi, Toni, Di Natale
