Zamparini: I stole Zenga!
Saturday 6 June, 2009

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has gloated that he “stole” Walter Zenga out from under Lazio’s noses.

The tactician had been in negotiations with the Olimpico side after quitting Catania, but shocked everyone by crossing to the Sicilian rivals.

“The contract is two years plus an option for a third. I went looking for the Coach who interested me the most,” explained Zamparini.

“Zenga was the most motivated and I stole him from Lazio. He is the most intelligent Coach I have ever spoken to.

“Now it is possible to bring back [Bosko] Jankovic from Genoa, a player Zenga really likes and could improve our squad.”

The fiery patron also tried to assuage complaints within both the Catania and Palermo ultras over this ‘traitorous’ transfer.

“I understand the fans are upset because he was in charge of Catania, but I love Palermo and have made the best decision for us.

“He is a professional, is very enthusiastic and therefore the supporters can sleep easy.”
