Vinicio Fioranelli, the football agent heading a Swiss consortium, insists he will buy Roma despite recent setbacks.
Last night, Italpetroli, the company run by the Sensi family, which has a majority stake in Roma, released a statement saying Fioranelli's takeover bid had failed.
In an interview with this morning's Il Corriere dello Sport, Fioranelli refused to admit defeat.
On being asked if his chances of buying Roma were finished, Fioranelli replied: No.
I am happy for the operation we are carrying forward. We were conscious that this would be a difficult operation.
To tell the truth, it is revealing itself to be very difficult, but at the same time we are confident. We want to buy Roma.
Italpetroli are believed to have rejected Fioranelli's offer because his credentials didn't check out, an allegation he strongly denies.
It's not like this. We are going forward with little steps, but we are going forward. We have the means to conclude the operation. The problems are of another nature, he said.
I remain very confident, we will manage to resolve the problems and buy Roma. We all have a great desire to buy the club.
I believe that within four or five days we will know how it all finishes, in one sense or another, he concluded.
