Chelsea court Maicon
Tuesday 23 June, 2009

Chelsea have turned their attention to Inter defender Maicon now that Glen Johnson has joined rivals Liverpool, according to the Sun.

The Blues are apparently in the market for a full-back despite the success of Ashley Cole and Jose Bosingwa.

However, Chelsea need cover in that position as Bosingwa is suspended for four Champions League matches.

Comments made by Maicon's agent, Antonio Caliendo, appear to confirm the Blues' interest.

“I believe Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is one of Maicon's biggest admirers. It's not just Real Madrid, but Chelsea who also could make a move,” Caliendo said.

“What I would like to point out is that you don't negotiate for a champion, you go there, you buy him and that's that.

“You need to make a financial effort to buy a champion,” he concluded.

Maicon is unhappy at Inter, as he feels the club is too busy trying to please Zlatan Ibrahimovic rather than him.

He has openly flirted with Real Madrid, telling the Italian Press it would be wonderful to play for them.

The 27-year-old is currently on international duty with Brazil at the Confederations Cup where he has impressed.

Should Maicon leave for Chelsea, Inter are apparently considering replacing him with Lazio right-back Aleksandar Kolarov.

Il Corriere dello Sport understands the Nerazzurri will have to make an offer of more than £7m if they are to prise Kolarov away from the capital.

The 23-year-old Serb was one of the best young players in Serie A last season and has also attracted attention from Juventus.
