Papa confirms Lecce exit
Friday 20 June, 2008

Newly promoted Lecce will begin life in Serie A without Coach Giuseppe Papadopulo after contract talks hit a brick wall.

The former Lazio tactician led the Salentini back to the top flight after two seasons in the second tier.

But the joy of a play-off Final win over Albinoleffe last week has faded from the memory after Papa announced he had parted company with the Via Del Mare outfit.

“I can confirm that I won’t be leading Lecce in Serie A next season,” Papadopulo told Tuttomercatoweb.

“It’s not a sacking. My contract was going to expire and we didn’t find an agreement for a renewal.

“The main reason for the split is a difference in strategies, more than financial disagreements.

“I hoped that I would find common ground with the directors, but that didn’t happen.

“I have always achieved important results and maybe that made me a little presumptuous.

“Are there regrets? At the moment I don’t know how to explain my state of mind,” he concluded.

Mario Beretta, Daniele Arrigoni and Domenico Di Carlo are in the frame to take over in Apulia.
