Pele warns Brazil
Saturday 20 June, 2009

Pele has told Brazil to beware Italy on Sunday night because they seem like a wounded animal, ready to pounce.

The Azzurri lost 1-0 to Egypt on Thursday evening and need a positive result if they are to go through to the next round.

“When the two countries who have won the most World Cups meet, balance is the predominant feature apart from the conditions of form,” Pele told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“In London in February Brazil were a lot more superior and won with authority, but that 2-0 victory is already the past. This time it will be a different story.

“Brazil lacked dynamism in the first game against Egypt. Things didn't go much better against the USA,” Pele explained.

“I hope that Brazil still grows and plays well against Italy, an opponent you should never underestimate above all after a defeat like that against Egypt in which it's right to recognise that the opposition goalkeeper made great saves denying the Azzurri an equaliser.

“Italy knows how to pick itself up in a hurry,” he added.

“This is the time of experiments. Dunga is doing them and he has to continue to do them, as does Lippi, who is the current champion of the world.”

Pele then turned his attention to Serie A and Milan, who recently appointed Leonardo as Coach.

“With his intelligence, his personality and knowledge of the environment, Leonardo could surprise the sceptics even if he didn't expect to become Coach of Milan so rapidly.

“To substitute Carlo Ancelotti is not simple, actually it's a fascinating challenge. I hope he realises the big objectives.

“Milan's links with Brazil were born many years ago, starting from the `60s when they bought Dino Sani and Jose Altafini,” Pele concluded.
