Simoni questions Jose's credentials
Sunday 1 June, 2008

Former Inter boss Gigi Simoni feels that Jose Mourinho isn’t the right man for the vacant Nerazzurri hot seat.

The Beneamata officially sacked Roberto Mancini last week, in spite of their title success.

President Massimo Moratti is now looking for a replacement to deliver success on the domestic and European stages next term and it is widely believed that he will turn to former Chelsea tactician Mourinho.

“Mourinho is a prestigious Coach, but he has become known for his arrogant attitude,” Simoni declared.

“Personally I like two other candidates in particular – Arsene Wenger of Arsenal and Liverpool’s Rafa Benitez.

“I think Benitez was and still is the right man for Inter. He speaks Italian and is a man of culture, whereas Mourinho is a good tactician, but his temperament might cause clashes with the players and directors.”

Despite his reservations over Mourinho, Simoni agrees with the decision to axe Mancini.

“Perhaps at another club he would have been sacked immediately after his declarations following the defeat against Liverpool,” he maintained.

“You can’t say that you’re leaving without warning the President or anyone else first. It was the right thing to let him go.”
