Mourinho: Barça approached me
Thursday 19 June, 2008

Inter’s new leader Jose Mourinho claims that he turned down the Barcelona job and that he didn’t approach the Spanish giants as has been reported.

Mourinho reacted angrily when Barcelona Vice-President Marc Ingla told Catalunya Radio that the Portuguese tactician had arranged a meeting with the club before the appointment of Josep Guardiola.

According to Mourinho, the meeting took place at the request of Ingla and sporting director Txiki Beguiristain.

“I don’t want to waste my time with things that don’t interest me and only Inter interest me at the moment,” Mourinho insisted.

“But I can assure you that Mr Ingla is lying because he and Mr Beguiristain asked to meet me in Lisbon.

“Let Barcelona work to achieve happiness, which is what I am doing at Inter, but I will not allow Ingla or anyone else to put my reputation in doubt,” he concluded.
