What about D’Agostino?
Wednesday 17 June, 2009

Gaetano D’Agostino’s proposed move to Juventus may be in jeopardy after the Old Lady turned her attention to Real Madrid’s Mahamadou Diarra.

The Udinese playmaker was expected to move to Turin this summer after a sensational season at the Friuli saw Juventus make an early approach.

However, although the player is desperate to complete the switch, negotiations have stalled over a transfer fee.

There is still no financial agreement in place and Udinese’s requests to insert Sebastian Giovinco and Paolo De Ceglie in the deal have fallen on deaf ears.

Giovinco has insisted that he will remain at Juventus, while the defender looks set to join Napoli in a co-ownership deal.

With no sign of a compromise on the horizon, the Stadio Olimpico outfit are now making a move for Diarra.

Sporting director Alessio Secco has flown to Spain to hold talks with Real over the 28-year-old Mali international.

A powerful central midfielder, Diarra would be a cheaper option than D’Agostino given that the Spanish giants are looking to trim their squad following this summer’s facelift.

Secco, who will also reportedly meet with Villarreal officials over Giuseppe Rossi, is looking for new midfielders given that Christian Poulsen is set to be sold.

The Dane, signed last summer at the request of now axed boss Claudio Ranieri, will leave with Fenerbahce and a number of German sides keen.
