Lippi wants Italians to stay
Wednesday 10 June, 2009

Marcello Lippi wants Italian players to stay in Italy rather than abroad, as it enriches Serie A and makes his job easier.

Yesterday, the 61-year-old World Cup winner said he was glad Kaka left Milan for Real Madrid because it meant one less foreigner in Serie A.

“I will not allow myself to give advice to any of our clubs when it comes to the transfer market,” Lippi said.

“But I have told the players who are here with me to try and stay in the Italian championship. Jokingly I add that this way they save La Nazionale money on flights, but in reality the more Italians I have in our championship the better.”

Italy are in South Africa preparing for the Confederations Cup. Tonight they face New Zealand in a friendly.
