Milan’s “only remaining transfer target is Luis Fabiano,” admits Adriano Galliani, “and then our market is closed.”
The Rossoneri were expected to replenish their squad after Kaka’s £60m move to Real Madrid raised much-needed funds, but the club is keeping it simple.
“The transfer market is essentially closed, we just need to bring in a striker,” confessed Vice-President Galliani.
He had been in negotiations with Real Madrid for Klaas Jan Huntelaar, but that move collapsed when the Spaniards refused to release him on loan.
“Huntelaar will go to Stuttgart. Real behaved impeccably with regards to the Dutchman, but if they receive a cash offer then they are in a great position to sell.
“Luis Fabiano is our only remaining transfer target, even if right now there are a few million between the demand and the offer.
“There is not much else to say, we just need to find an agreement with Sevilla over the figures.”
The 28-year-old was top scorer at the Confederations Cup and bagged a brace against Italy, while he announced his desire to join Milan.
As for the defence, Galliani insists the arrival of American international Oguchi Onyewu is all that’s needed.
“With Onyewu our defence has been completed. There is no need for [Aly] Cissokho or anybody else.
“We had been following him for some time and he replaces [Philippe] Senderos. We have no doubts over Alessandro Nesta, while Thiago Silva is the replacement for Paolo Maldini.
“There is no point suggesting other names, from Philippe Mexes to Andre Santos.”
Atletico Madrid confirmed yesterday they have no interest in Andrea Pirlo, but Galliani warns that doesn’t mean a reunion with Carlo Ancelotti is expected.
“There has been no offer for Pirlo and we will stay as we are. The presumed bid from Chelsea exists only in the newspapers. We never received anything, so it doesn’t exist.”
