As Fiorentina confirm talks with Arsenal for Felipe Melo, teammate Marco Donadel hopes it doesn’t come to that.
On Saturday the official club website released a statement announcing Arsenal had made an offer for Melo that “approached the buy-out clause” of £21m, but that Emmanuel Eboue had been requested as part of the deal.
“If Melo leaves, then it will be a big loss for us,” teammate Donadel told Sky Sport Italia.
“Fiorentina would lose a great deal in physical terms in the middle of the park. Having so many talented players upfront, we need a midfielder who is strong and solid defensively like Melo.”
While Arsenal are in confirmed talks, there are also reports that Juventus are close to capturing the Confederations Cup hero.
“Everyone has his own hopes and dreams,” mused Donadel. “In four years here I have seen many players come and go.
“It would be a bit weird seeing Felipe in a Juventus shirt, but I don’t want to judge anybody.”
Fiorentina’s biggest rivals in Serie A are Juve, as their mutual dislike goes back many decades.
