In an open letter released on the club's website, Roma President Rosella Sensi has defended Francesco Totti after a scathing attack from a disgruntled lawyer.
Nicola Irti, who represents the Fio Sports Group, a company run by Vinicio Fioranelli, the football agent heading a Swiss consortium who recently had a bid to buy Roma rejected, sparked outrage earlier today by saying that the Giallorossi need to free themselves of Totti because he is ruining the club.
Dear Francesco, you are and continue to be the history of Roma. You are not only a football champion, but you are an example for your professionalism and human gifts which have always distinguished you, Sensi wrote.
An example for all the youngsters, above all for those growing up in our academy to whom you are a point of reference. Perhaps, only Alfredo Di Stefano's history with Real Madrid is equal to yours with Roma.
You are the symbol of our team and of many Romans, and I believe that I am not offending anyone in saying that - like Paolo Maldini - you are the last standard bearer of the football made up of feelings, passion and love for the colours of your team.
I am sure that you will still do well for our Roma and, above all, I am honoured to have you as a friend, Sensi concluded.
