Casiraghi chooses Olympians

Pierluigi Casiraghi has chosen his provisional squad for the Olympic Games in Beijing next month.

After winning the Toulon Tournament, the Under-23 side are looking to make up for the Azzurri’s disappointing Euro 2008 by clinching a gold medal.

Casiraghi has chosen just one overage player in Lazio hitman Tommaso Rocchi and has picked 22 players for his training camp that starts in Rome on July 6.

The team will play a final preparation game against Romania on July 22 in Pistoia.

Italy’s provisional Olympic squad:


Abate (Milan), Acquafresca (Cagliari), Bocchetti (Genoa), Candreva (Udinese), Cigarini (Parma), Coda (Udinese), Consigli (Atalanta), Criscito (Genoa), De Ceglie (Juventus), De Silvestri (Lazio), Dessena (Parma), Giovinco (Juventus), Marchisio (Juventus), Montolivo (Fiorentina), Motta (Udinese), Nocerino (Palermo), Ranocchia (Arezzo), Rocchi (Lazio), Rossi (Villarreal), Russotto (Treviso), Sirigu (Palermo), Viviano (Brescia)

Casiraghi has also submitted a short-list of 15 other players who can be called into the squad.
