La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Milan have made an official offer for Sevilla and Brazil international striker Luis Fabiano.
The Rossoneri are in the market for a target man and had focused their efforts on signing Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko, who turned them down earlier this week.
Milan have since turned their attention to Fabiano, who is coming off the back of an excellent Confederations Cup in which he scored five goals.
According to La Gazzetta, Milan have offered £12m for the 28-year-old former Sao Paulo and Porto player, who has scored 22 goals in 31 appearances for Brazil.
Fabiano has one year left on his current contract, which contains a £51m buyout clause.
Milan are not expected to exercise that option, although few expect Sevilla to accept their initial offer.
Having said that, Fabiano has expressed his desire to move to San Siro and a deal could apparently be done for £17m.
Yesterday evening, Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani reportedly met Fabiano's agent in Basel to discuss the offer.
If the Rossoneri fail in their attempt to sign Fabiano, they will look at either Klaas-Jan Huntelaar or Emmanuel Adebayor.
Milan have been strongly linked with Adebayor over the last year, but were scared off by his wage demands.
