New Treviso Coach Luca Gotti explained the bizarre promotion after his predecessor's sacking at the start of pre-season training.
I read my name in the newspapers, but had never spoken to anyone, said the tactician.
The day before pre-season training was due to begin, President Ettore Setten asked to meet me in the afternoon. We discussed it and late into the night found an agreement on the contract and type of plan.
It was all so rushed that when Bepi Pillon (pictured) parted company with the club, the team was forced to begin their pre-season training camp without a Coach.
Gotti's journey was delayed so he could confirm with the FIGC that he was free of his contract as former Under-17 boss.
I was disappointed that I couldn't travel with the lads, but I wanted to resolve my contract with the Federation personally. Giancarlo Abete was very helpful and proud that a Serie B club was looking to me.
I fully admit I am inexperienced at this level and even as a player I never went beyond Serie C2, but I think mistakes are a great way of learning to do better. Plus I have uncommon enthusiasm and can't wait to get on the pitch.
It is an honour for me to have come after Pillon. I am a simple and relaxed person, but one who makes decisions.
