Carletto impressed by Flamini start
Thursday 24 July, 2008

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has praised Mathieu Flamini and Luca Antonini for their performances against Cremonese yesterday.

The Rossoneri looked short of ideas and fluency in a stalemate against their Serie C opponents but Flamini impressed on his debut.

“The first match of the season was a good test,” Ancelotti said. “We played with commitment and showed good desire and concentration.

“I saw good signs, particularly because the squad showed continuity. In my opinion our preparations have started in the best possible way.

“Flamini is a complete player who can be used in the defensive phase as well as the offensive phase.

“For those of us who already know him, he isn’t a gamble but a certainty.”

Youngster Antonini spent last season at Empoli, but has been brought back to San Siro for the coming campaign.

“Antonini has showed that he does better at the back and I think that he can also do well as a winger,” Ancelotti stressed.

“He must understand the needs of the team but he provided great dynamism and a lot of will.”

Veteran hitman Pippo Inzaghi was unexpectedly left out of the starting line-up, but Carletto explained his absence.

“Inzaghi wasn’t selected as a precaution and we mustn’t forget that he must be protected because he is 35-years-old,” he concluded.
