Inter seek Sulley discount
Wednesday 23 July, 2008

Inter are closing in on a deal for Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari but they are looking to bring down his price tag.

The Nerazzurri seem to have given up hope of luring Chelsea star Frank Lampard until his contract expires this time next year.

But Coach Jose Mourinho is still set on bringing another midfielder to San Siro and has turned to Ghanaian international Muntari.

The 23-year-old made a name for himself at Udinese between 2002 and 2007 before leaving for Pompey last summer for £7m.

After a successful season in England, Muntari is believed to be valued at £15m and boss Harry Redknapp has stressed his desire to keep the versatile ace.

However, while Redknapp insists that there has been no contact between the two clubs, reports on Sky Sport Italia suggest that Inter already have a provisional contract agreement with Muntari.

The three-year deal is allegedly worth £1.7m but would rise to £2.2m at the end of the first season at San Siro.

But the Italian champions are believed to be very reluctant to pay £15m for Muntari and may opt to chase Porto’s Ricardo Quaresma instead should Portsmouth refuse to drop their demands.

It is widely believed that the Beneamata will try and persuade the Fratton Park to accept a bid of £10m and will not go beyond that mark.
