Roma have officially made a bid for Adrian Mutu and Fiorentina have confirmed, it is only logical to consider it.
The rumours of their interest in the Romanian have been circulating for months, but this is the first time the offer has been made official.
I am not one who gambles, I like to play with my cards on the table. In the last few hours I have received an official offer from Roma, announced director of sport Pantaleo Corvino.
Taking this into consideration, it is my job and that of Fiorentina to meet with the club making the inquiries.
Fiorentina's policy is to keep its players, but when it comes to someone close to the age of 30, if they ask to leave then it is our duty to listen to eventual offers.
At this stage, negotiations could take a massive step forward and a deal completed fairly quickly. It's likely the Giallorossi made their bid now to avoid seeing Mutu cup-tied in the Champions League preliminary round.
It seems right and logical to consider the offer and, if it is valid, to talk it over. It is legitimate for a player to ask to leave and think about other alternatives. It's possible Mutu wants something other than Fiorentina.
Although the official figures have not been released, it is reported Roma have bid £15.8m for Mutu with a contract worth £2.5m per season.
Suspicions were raised when the former Chelsea and Juventus star did not turn up to training this morning.
Officially it was down to illness, but it is now likely it was so he could hold negotiations with the two clubs.
