Monday 21 July, 2008 | |
Chelsea have refuted Milan general manager Adriano Gallianis claims that they unsuccessfully tabled a huge bid for Brazilian star Kaka.
As FIFA World Player of the Year, Kakas future has been a constant source of speculation and he has been regularly linked to top sides, such as Real Madrid.
But while these stories are usually little more than Press gossip, it seemed that The Guardian were justified in reporting that Chelsea had made an £80m bid for Kaka when Galliani revealed that there had been contact.
Its true that Chelsea made a conspicuous offer, but I wont say how much it was, the Diavolo director said on Saturday night.
However, now Chelsea have moved to deny that any such move was ever made.
There was never any offer, chief executive Peter Kenyon maintained.
They made it clear that the player wasnt for sale and so we never made any bid.
Kenyons comments dont seem to have stalled the rumour mill as todays La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Chelsea are now willing to break the £100m barrier in their efforts to lure Kaka.
