Matteo Brighi is “not considered a priority by Roma,” but that doesn’t mean he’ll quit the club, says his agent.
The Italian international has been one of their most impressive players over the past 12 months and was irritated that he wasn’t offered a pay rise.
“In the last few weeks I have not had contact with the directors,” explained agent Vanni Puzzolo. “We have chosen the path of silence awaiting a meeting that I hope will come soon.
“Some in the media have tried to paint Matteo as a boy without common sense who immediately wants to earn more money. That’s not the case.”
Puzzolo did, however, reiterate that Brighi felt ignored during the summer when contract renegotiations involved Juan, Alberto Aquilani, Francesco Totti and Marco Motta.
“Unfortunately Roma have decided he is not a player who deserves a priority in the pay structure,” continued the representative.
“We have a different view of things, as Matteo is one of the 30 best Italian players and in the Nazionale.
“He asked me to ensure he turned up to pre-season training with a new contract, but this has not happened.
“We will wait, showing good common sense. He’ll turn up to the training camp tomorrow and is usually the first to arrive, so I foresee no problem.”
