Italy's youth face English threat
Thursday 17 July, 2008

Italy’s Under-19 side face a crucial European Championship game against England this evening and their opponents seem confident.

Milan starlet Alberto Paloschi was on hand to grab a point in Italy’s opener against Greece with a 90th-minute penalty.

Meanwhile, England were beaten 2-0 by host nation the Czech Republic and need to win to stand a chance of qualification.

Although Italy are amongst the favourites for the silverware, a defeat would leave them in dire trouble and the English players believe they can triumph.

“The Italians have traditionally always been pretty good in defence,” England striker Freddie Sears said.

“But I think that we have enough in this squad to break them down and cause some damage.”

Defender James Tomkins also issued a warning to Francesco Rocca’s men.

“We all know that there is a lot of pressure on us to perform and get something out of the match,” he stated.

“But we have a lot of ability and when we play well we can beat most teams, Italy included,”

The game kicks off at Mlada Boleslav’s Mestsky Stadion at 7pm and will be refereed by French official Olivier Thual.
