Zanetti denies Poulsen pressure
Thursday 17 July, 2008

Cristiano Zanetti claims he isn’t scared of added competition for a starting spot in the Juventus midfield after the arrival of Christian Poulsen.

Former Inter man Zanetti was an important figure for the Old Lady last term as a solid holding midfielder.

But the arrival of Danish international Poulsen, who plays a similar role, could pose a threat to the 31-year-old.

“There has always been competition like this in big teams,” Zanetti told the Juventus Channel.

“Last year I had Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron. This time around there are a lot of players who can potentially be first-team regulars, everyone will do their best and the Coach will decide.”

After last term’s unexpected third-placed finish, Zanetti is expecting another big effort from the Turin giants.

“This team has quality and everybody knows that, but it also has determination and stamina.

“Last year we beat all the bigger teams and just lacked a little bit of consistency.

“We will be looking to improve further and the club has done well to sign excellent players.”
