Ranieri shrugs off Piacenza loss
Wednesday 16 July, 2008

Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri claims that last night’s defeat against Serie B side Piacenza doesn’t worry him.

The Old Lady started their pre-season with the 7-1 demolition of Serie C2 minnows Mezzocorona, but they came unstuck in their second outing.

Amauri and David Trezeguet failed to click and the Bianconeri – minus a host of stars – were defeated 1-0 in Trento by mediocre Second Division outfit Piacenza.

“Our opponents forced us to run around a lot and that was what we wanted most,” Ranieri insisted.

“It was their second day of training and so they were less tired than us. Nobody ever likes losing, but at this stage the result is the least important thing.

“We kept trying to score and we went close on several occasions. I don’t think anyone got injured, except for Tiago who was struck hard on the ankle.

“The next step will be welcoming back the internationals along with Christian Poulsen and getting them to the same level as the others.”
