Juve chief: We've finished shopping
Tuesday 15 July, 2008

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has confirmed that the Bianconeri have finished their transfer activity for the summer.

The Old Lady’s main addition to the squad was Palermo hitman Amauri, but they have also swooped for Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen, Livorno defender Dario Knezevic and Olof Mellberg.

“Everyone knows that the market doesn’t close until August 30, but unless something extraordinary happens we have finished our activity,” Cobolli Gigli told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“There won’t be a move for Dejan Stankovic. Vincenzo Iaquinta? I don’t care if Roma want him or not – it is important that he was staying with us.”

Some Juve fans have protested against the acquisition of Poulsen, claiming that Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso would have been a better addition.

“It’s quite right that the fans want to be convinced by performances on the pitch,” the Bianconeri leader said.

“I am sure that we have made the right choice. It’s not a gamble from Claudio Ranieri – it’s a strategic decision because we know that a powerful attack needs to be supported by a strong midfield.

“Alonso would have been a technically different choice and we opted for Poulsen because we need a dam in the midfield.”
