Frey puts Fiorentina first
Monday 14 July, 2008

Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey reveals that he has snubbed advances from Milan and will sign a new deal with the Viola.

The French international is widely seen as one of Serie A’s most talented No 1’s and has been on Milan’s wish list for a long time.

With Nelson Dida hardly inspiring confidence at San Siro, links with Frey intensified, but the 28-year-old is happy to stay in Tuscany.

“There was a chance that I could go to Milan, but Fiorentina have done everything in their power to keep me,” he told La7Gold.

“I want to stay here and I will sign a new contract within the next few days.

“Is Dida on his way out at Milan? I think the role of goalkeeper is the best job to have, but it does carry a lot of responsibility.

“A few years ago Dida was the best ‘keeper in the world, but he has had a slump recently and lost some of his confidence.

“However, at the age of 30 he can’t be called into question because he has such quality and will return to being a great player.”
