Andrade disaster strikes Juve
Saturday 12 July, 2008

Juventus have lost defender Jorge Andrade for the entire season after tests showed he requires another knee operation.

The 30-year-old Portuguese international has had a disastrous time since joining the Bianconeri in 2007.

He managed just four Serie A appearances before suffering a devastating fracture of the left kneecap and has been out of action ever since.

He was meant to come back into the squad for this campaign, but this afternoon it was announced he would require another operation on the same injury.

Andrade pulled up during Thursday’s training session at the Pinzolo camp and tests have now confirmed the worst case scenario.

The former Deportivo La Coruna star must now fly to Lisbon for the surgery to be performed by Professor Martins on Monday.

It will be the third operation on the left knee in the last 12 months and Juventus medical staff do not expect him to be back at all this season.

The blow could force the club back on to the transfer market, although they have reinforced with the arrival of Olof Mellberg.
