Udinese's goodbye to Gyan
Friday 11 July, 2008

Udinese have agreed a deal with French outfit Rennes for Ghanaian international striker Gyan Asamoah.

After two years on loan at Modena in Serie B, Asamoah was brought back to base at the start of 2007 in spite of an approach from Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow.

But the first Ghanaian ever to score at a World Cup finals suffered from a series of injuries at the Stadio Friuli and never had a chance to show his full potential in Serie A.

With Antonio Di Natale almost certain to stay in Udine next term, the Zebrette have decided there won’t be space for Gyan in the coming campaign.

The 22-year-old has now signed for Rennes for around £6.5m and will try and make his mark in Ligue 1.
