Iaquinta hails affectionate fans
Friday 11 July, 2008

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta insists that he never feared for his future in Turin but was heartened by fans’ protests at transfer rumours.

Former Udinese hitman Iaquinta played irregularly last term and there were reports that he was frustrated by his lack of games.

Sources suggested that the Calabrian predator could head for the exit, but fans rallied to his defence and a group sent a letter of complaint to the Old Lady’s headquarters.

“The affection that the fans are showing me makes me happy,” Iaquinta said.

“I knew that I would be staying at Juve because I was told before I left to go on holiday and I am happy that I am remaining in Turin.”

With Palermo star Amauri being added to David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero and Iaquinta, the possibility of a striking trident presents itself.

“We tried it in the League last year in both games against Roma,” Iaquinta recalled.

“It went well because we drew in Rome and we won in Turin. But it’s all up to the Coach.”

Iaquinta concluded by discussing his desire to return to the national side after missing out on Euro 2008.

“Everyone thinks about the national team,” he stressed. “It’s every player’s dream to represent their nation.

“Now it’s up to me to show my ability and then I’ll obviously hope to get a call.”
