French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt has praised Zinedine Zidane for head-butting Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup Final.
Betancourt has just been released by guerrilla group FARC, who held her captive for six years in Colombia.
And when asked for her most striking memories of her period as a hostage, the 46-year-old surprisingly mentioned the 2006 World Cup.
The game caused problems and tensions in the camp where I was a prisoner, she recalled.
Some people were on my side and were supporting France, while others took the Italian side.
The enduring memory of the Final in Berlin was the uncharacteristic attack from Zidane on Materazzi that shook the football world.
While Zizous actions were widely condemned, Betancourt takes a different view.
I adored the head-butt by Zidane and I think I would have done the same thing, she claimed. I stand against those who criticised him.
