Ranieri sees silver lining
Wednesday 7 January, 2009

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri was satisfied with his side's performance in yesterday's friendly loss to Monaco.

The Old Lady started 2009 with a penalty shoot-out defeat against Ligue 1 side Monaco in Messina.

Vincenzo Iaquinta had secured a 1-1 draw with a last-gasp goal, but Paolo De Ceglie missed the vital spot-kick.

“My concern was just to make sure that everyone was in good shape and didn't play badly,” Ranieri said after the final whistle.

“I paid particular attention to those players who were returning from injury.

“Christian Poulsen, Cristiano Zanetti and Hasan Salihamidzic did well, even if they aren't at the same level as the others yet.

“In general I thought this was a good test for us ahead of Sunday's game against Siena.

“The Tuscans are playing well and they will really put us through our paces,” he concluded.
