Totti: Becks effect could help us
Tuesday 6 January, 2009

Roma talisman Francesco Totti has praised Milan new boy David Beckham but suggests his arrival could weaken the Rossoneri.

The Giallorossi are preparing to face Milan as they look to turn over a new leaf in 2009.

All the pre-match hype has revolved around the Diavolo's newest face Beckham, but Totti isn't sure that his arrival is a disadvantage.

“I'm very curious about David's arrival in Italy,” Totti said on TG1.

“He is an icon and I'm glad that he has chosen to play in our League, even if it is only for a short while.

“I like Beckham a lot and I like his wife - they are two very attractive people and they will probably make a lot of people jealous.

“Milan are a very strong team, but let's hope that Carlo Ancelotti decides to field all of his big-name players together.

“I honestly think that could be an advantage for us because the team would be unbalanced.”

Milan Coach Ancelotti has admitted his desire to lead Roma at some stage in the future.

“Everyone knows that he loves our colours and he always will,” Totti said.

“I think that one day he will realise his dream of coaching Roma, but the present is Luciano Spalletti and we want to keep him.”

Totti concluded by discussing his personal situation at club and international level.

“What will happen when my contract expires in 2010? My relationship with the club has always been good, perhaps too good.

“I don't think that there will be any obstacles to a new deal and the sooner it's done, the better.

“As for the Azzurri, when someone like Marcello Lippi has a high opinion of you and is waiting for his return, you want to repay his trust.”
