Inter are torn over how to punish Adriano for his tardiness, as he claims it’s their fault he may be fined 150,000 Euros.
The striker returned to Italy late from his Christmas break in Brazil and was not present at Friday’s first training session of 2009.
His spokesman insisted the fault lay with the club, who had not booked the flight back from Rio, so he “had to pay out of his own pocket” when reorganising another ticket.
According to newspapers Tuttosport and the Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are demanding the maximum fine from the Lega Calcio Disciplinary Commission.
The limit is 30 per cent of a monthly wage, which in Adri’s case would be 150,000 Euros, but Jose Mourinho is eager to sweep the whole matter under the carpet.
The Coach only jokingly addressed the issue in yesterday’s Press conference and said he’s ready to field Adriano in one of the upcoming games.
A January split is increasingly likely, though, and the Premier League seems to offer the best alternatives, as Inter do not want to sell him to a Serie A rival.
Newcastle United and Manchester City are said to be interested, while Chelsea could be tempted into a partial exchange for Mourinho protégé Didier Drogba.
