Clarence Seedorf believes Milan can make up the nine-point gap from leaders Inter, though he aims a sideswipe at their “irregular” total.
“In order to catch up to Inter we would certainly need their level of consistency, in fact something more than that,” said the midfielder.
“However, I wouldn’t be so pessimistic. If we calculate that the goal for the 2-1 win at Siena was irregular, then the gap would in reality be seven points and not nine.
“If we can do well in the second half of the season, then we can really achieve something impressive.”
The Nerazzurri extended their advantage at the top of the table with a hard-fought and controversial victory at Siena, when Douglas Maicon’s late goal was clearly offside.
That, coupled with Milan’s 4-2 defeat at Juventus, expanded the gap between the ‘cousins’ to nine points.
“I hope that in this new year the team can maintain its fitness levels,” continued Seedorf from the Rossoneri training camp in Dubai.
“This way I think we’ll have a better chance of being competitive right to the end and challenging for some silverware.
“It is true that up until now we have made some mistakes, but it’s also evident that if we amassed 33 points then we have done something positive so far.”
