David Beckham paid a visit to former Milan and Fiorentina star Stefano Borgonovo, who is suffering from Lou Gehrig's Disease.
The England international accompanied Carlo Ancelotti to Borgonovo's home in Giussano this afternoon and the photograph of their meeting was placed on the official Milan website.
Borgonovo was a hero for the Rossoneri fans and has become the public face of the fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease, also known as Amyotrphic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
This form of motor neurone disease primarily strikes athletes and is characterised by the slow wasting away, or atrophy, of the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord.
Borgonovo retired from football in 1995 and was diagnosed with the illness in September 2008, becoming the second major Italian player to be struck down after Genoa legend Gianluca Signorini died in 2002.
Milan and Fiorentina are continually holding charity events to raise funds for Borgonovo's foundation and Beckham met with the former player as part of the campaign to increase awareness.
