Spanish League leaders Barcelona have joined Real Madrid in the chase to sign Milans Kaka at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old resisted a world record-breaking £107m transfer to Manchester City on Monday night which would have made him the highest earning footballer on the planet.
Spanish daily AS today reports that presidential elections at Barcelona and Real Madrid could spark a bidding war for Kakas services.
Candidates seeking to oust Barcelona President Joan Laporta and replace his disgraced Real Madrid counterpart Ramon Calderon know that a promise to sign Kaka would carry a lot of votes.
Former Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is expected to stand again and has already intimated that he wants to bring the former World Player of the Year to the Bernabeu.
While Kaka recently insisted that money was not everything to him, he could be tempted by a move to either of the Spanish giants after Milan appeared willing to sell him to Manchester City.
Kaka joined Milan from Sao Paulo in 2003 and has won everything as a player, most notably the Champions League and World Cup.
