Spalletti loses Vucinic
Saturday 17 January, 2009

Mirko Vucinic and Alexandre Doni miss the trip to Torino, while Luciano Spalletti comments on Roma’s chief medic mystery.

The two stars are out of the squad for Sunday afternoon’s Serie A game, joining Francesco Totti, Vincenzo Montella, Stefano Okaka, Max Tonetto and the suspended Simone Perrotta.

“It will be a special game, as Torino always give their best on home turf,” explained the tactician.

“Their crowd represents a very important component of that success. They also have quality players who can prove dangerous for us.

“We may be missing Doni and Vucinic, but we recover [Jeremy] Menez and [Alberto] Aquilani also seems to be fully fit now.

“In any case, I want those who step on to the field to show their quality, regardless of who is or isn’t there.”

It has been a controversial 24 hours in the Roma camp, as last night chief medic Doctor Mario Brozzi was axed and the media are at a loss to explain why.

“We had a few disagreements, but nothing particularly serious,” mused Spalletti when asked about his role in the affair.

It has now been confirmed that Stefano Del Signore has signed a contract until June 30, 2009 to become Roma’s new chief medic.

Today director Bruno Conti assured that Daniele De Rossi would not be on the market even at Manchester City’s prices, but the tactician isn’t so sure.

“Seeing as this hypothesis has not become a reality, I could only comment if it effectively happened.

“The important thing is what the player wants, but I think that if Milan truly wanted to keep Kaka, then they would.

“I maintain a signing like that would create an imbalance within the squad. How would the other players take it?”

The Rossoneri are considering a £108m offer for Kaka with wages for the player of £500,000 per week.

Roma squad: Panucci, Cicinho, Juan, Mexes, Pizarro, Aquilani, Taddei, Pipolo, Filipe, Loria, De Rossi, Riise, Baptista, Menez, Artur, Greco, Bertagnoli, Brighi, Virga, Cassetti
