Sensi working on contracts
Thursday 15 January, 2009

Roma President Rosella Sensi insists she will do her utmost to keep the Giallorossi’s best players at the club.

Several Roma players, most notably Philippe Mexes, want new contracts and their uncertain futures are attracting the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

“I understand the anxiety of our fans,” said Sensi. “Because I too am a fan. I am not worried because I know the players.

“I have spoken with them. I am calm. We only need a little more time. It won’t be long, I promise. I expect to do them all as soon as possible.”

When asked about rumours linking Mexes with a move to Milan later this month, Sensi dismissed them outright.

“There is nothing to deny,” explained Sensi. “He’ll remain at Roma because he is a Roma player. We are speaking with facts.”

Sensi then turned to the Giallorossi’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria, which sees them move up to eighth in Serie A just six points from the Champions League places.

“It was a beautiful game,” said Sensi. “A victory that we needed. Julio Baptista’s first goal is one to remember. We are now even more satisfied to have bought him in the summer.

“I would now like to think to Sunday and the game against Torino. Every game is difficult, it’s a championship in which you don’t meet big and small teams, only difficult ones.”

Sensi was also upbeat about the fitness of Francesco Totti, who returned to training this week for the first time since suffering a thigh injury in late December.

“I expect to see him on the pitch as soon as possible, his state of health allowing. I was comforted by watching him run and I know he is keeping himself in good shape.”
