Thiago Silva settles at Milan
Thursday 15 January, 2009

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has taken part in his first training session as a Milan player and is looking forward to making his debut for the club.

The 24-year-old former Porto and Dynamo Moscow youngster agreed terms with the Rossoneri in the winter. He left last year’s Copa Libertadores runners up Fluminense.

“Before I began, I was anxious to understand just how things worked here,” said Silva, who won a bronze medal with Brazil at this summer’s Beijing Olympics.

Milan have given Silva the unenviable task of replacing club legend Paolo Maldini who might retire at the end of this season.

“It will be difficult to take his place,” admitted Silva. “He is an idol, but I am sure I will be able to play at his level.”

Silva went on to reveal just how he felt when he walked into the Milan dressing room for the first time.

“The initial impact remains in my mind, everyone received me well and I am sure that we will form a compact group capable of obtaining the successes Milan deserves.”

Silva joins four other Brazilians at Milanello and is likely to say hello to another one this morning as Felipe Mattioni completes his transfer from Gremio.
