Juve eye Schalke starlet
Wednesday 14 January, 2009

Juventus continue to scour the Bundesliga in their search for fresh talent and Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes is on the radar.

The Turin giants are reportedly preparing to table an official offer for Werder Bremen midfielder Diego.

And sporting director Alessio Secco could make a trip to Germany with the secondary objective of discussing Under-21 international Howedes.

According to Tuttosport, Secco made several trips to Gelsenkirchen to watch Croatian striker Ivan Rakitic and was enchanted by Howedes.

The powerful 20-year-old stopper has worked his way through Schalke's ranks and is commanding a regular first-team place despite competition from Mladen Krstajic.

However, Juve may have to table a generous offer to persuade Schalke to relinquish their grip on Howedes, who is under contract until June 2014.
