Philippe Mexes has declared in no uncertain terms he won’t ask to join Milan. “I will never betray Roma.”
The defender has been the centre of transfer gossip after praising the Rossoneri in the wake of Sunday’s 2-2 draw, amid suggestions they could use a buy-out clause in his contract.
“My words were misinterpreted,” slammed Mexes on Roma Channel this evening. “I will never betray Roma.
“All I said was that Milan are a great squad. That’s all. I never said I wanted to leave here. All the people who know me are fully aware I will never betray Roma.”
However, Mexes did leave the door open for a change of heart, if of course the club is behind him.
“I have a contract until 2011. Only God knows what will happen in the future, but while I am happy here, I will not leave,” continued the Frenchman.
“Unfortunately some journalists have nothing better to do with their time so they stir up trouble.”
Roma take on Sampdoria on Wednesday evening in a rescheduled Serie A Week 9 game that was rained off on October 29, 2008.
Mexes and Mirko Vucinic will not play, as they are suspended, while Max Tonetto, Francesco Totti, Alexandre Doni and Stefano Okaka are injured.
Alberto Aquilani is in the squad, but in doubt to feature, as the unlucky Italian international skipped training today with a new muscular problem.
He only made his official comeback on Sunday as a substitute after two months on the sidelines.
Roma squad: Aquilani, Artur, Baptista, Bertagnoli, Brighi, Cassetti, Cicinho, De Rossi, Filipe, Greco, Juan, Loria, Menez, Montella, Panucci, Perrotta, Pipolo, Pizarro, Riise, Taddei, Virga
