Mutu's new elbow blow
Monday 12 January, 2009

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu is on the sidelines again after damaging his elbow in yesterday's home defeat against Lecce.

It was a terrible afternoon for the Viola who started 2009 in the worst possible way and lost star hitman Mutu after 50 minutes.

The Romanian suffered an elbow dislocation last August but had just declared himself to be fully fit after a tough period.

It has been confirmed that the elbow is quite seriously damaged and that Mutu will miss Fiorentina's trip to San Siro to face Milan this weekend and Week 20's crucial visit to Juventus.

The only good news for the former Chelsea man is that there is no fracture or ligament damage.

In 10 days a clearer assessment will be made of the extent of the problem but he is likely to be back for January 28's game against Napoli.

With Giampaolo Pazzini expected to leave the club during the transfer window, the opportunity in the starting 11 may fall to Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.
