Galliani closes Milan wallet
Monday 12 January, 2009

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has somewhat shockingly revealed that the Rossoneri will not be buying anyone in the January transfer window.

With Kakha Kaladze, Alessandro Nesta, Phiippe Senderos and Daniele Bonera all out injured, Milan were expected to sign a defender.

“We won’t return on the market,” said Galliani after the Rossoneri’s 2-2 draw with Roma last night. “Kaladze has nothing wrong with him in particular.

“To me, it should mean he doesn’t have to have an operation. We’re also looking to recover Nesta and Senderos.

“The only thing Milan asks of 2009 is health, especially for our defenders,” he laughed. “We always score, yet still have some little problems there at the back.”

Galliani then turned to last night’s game against Roma, which saw David Beckham make his Serie A debut and Alexandre Pato score two vital goals.

“Beckham did very well,” admitted Galliani. “As did the rest of team in the second half with an extraordinary Pato who flies on the pitch.

“I really don’t believe that there is another 19-year-old as strong as him in the world.”

When asked whether Milan needed to win considering League leaders Inter slipped up against Cagliari, Galliani refused to be anything other than positive.

“It has not been a negative day,” he concluded. “Inter played Cagliari. We played Roma. The distance remains nine points. But let’s leave Inter be and think about ourselves.”

Milan are third in Serie A, five points behind second placed Juventus and nine adrift of Inter. The Rossoneri play Fiorentina at the weekend.
