German Denis admits Napoli are targeting a Champions League spot and the fans “haven’t seen what we can really do yet.”
The Partenopei are currently flying high in fifth place, just two points off Fiorentina in fourth, and have been on sparkling form.
“I don’t set personal limits, nor do I set them for the team,” said ‘The Tank’. “The objective is to go far and our dream is to finish the season in fourth place with entry into the Champions League.
“The Coppa Italia is also an important objective and we are leaving nothing to chance. As for myself, I don’t want to stop now and things are going well, but you ought to know that you haven’t seen the real Denis yet.”
The Argentine took a while to get accustomed to Serie A, but has now scored seven goals, including a stunning hat-trick against Reggina.
He was recommended to Napoli by teammate and fellow countryman Ezequiel Lavezzi, but this means pushing Marcelo Zalayeta on to the bench.
“I think that Zalayeta, Lavezzi and I can play together,” assured Denis. “Of course, that is a decision that must be made by the Coach.
“Marcelo is a champion and very experienced. I’m convinced that if we all give it our best then Napoli can go far. We are aware of our quality.”
Lavezzi has become a fan favourite almost on the level of Diego Armando Maradona, although again Denis says the best is yet to come.
“I know him very well and think he can improve a great deal, reaching the level of the best players in the world. Right now those are Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.”
